Atlanto-axial Instability due to Os Odontoideum in Down¢¥s Syndrome -A Case Report-

Abstract
Atlanto-axial instability with or without myelopathy could be observed among the 12~18% of Down¢¥s syndrome patient. But, the occurrence of the instability due to os odontoideum is extremely rare, and only a few cases have been reported in the literature.
A 14-year-old girl with Down¢¥s syndrome who showed acute myelopathy after receiving minor head trauma, was seen at Chonnam University Hospital, and was proved to have the atlanto-axial subluxation due to os odontoideum. The patient was treated by posterior atlanto-axial fusion with wiring and autogenous bone graft, and showed gradual neurological recovery.
